Announcement: Predict the Heartland conference’s take-home message today! (-:

what-happen1The home page of the Heartland Institute’s “2009 International Conference on Climate Change”, as it appeared on 8 Jan (underline mine):

New York conference expected to draw
up to 1,000 scientists and experts
Global warming crisis “cancelled” by new scientific discoveries

The conference home page as it appears today, though, says that

About 800 scientists, economists, legislators, policy activists, and media representatives are expected to register at the second International Conference on Climate Change, opening Sunday, March 8 and concluding Tuesday, March 10 at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel.

even as the sponsorships page still maintains that

More than 1,000 are expected to attend the event.

So, what’s going on? Are there still going to be more than 1,000 attendees after all, where some arbitrary fraction (say, 800) are declared to be “scientists, economists, legislators”, and so on? Or has the economic crisis finally started to bite the Heartland Institute, and they just found they couldn’t afford enough free food for 1,000 people? Or have some of the 1,000 “sponsored” people decided to join James Hansen instead? 🙂 Well, I’m sure there’s a way to find out…
