Oops, crapmill just broke down on May Day’s eve

Via Deltoid, a report from Richard Littlemore of DeSmogBlog:

Dozens of scientists are demanding that their names be removed from a widely distributed Heartland Institute article entitled 500 Scientists with Documented Doubts of Man-Made Global Warming Scares … [which] purports to list scientists whose work contradicts the overwhelming scientific agreement that human-induced climate change is endangering the world as we know it.

DeSmogBlog manager Kevin Grandia emailed 122 of the scientists yesterday afternoon, calling their attention to the list. … [I]n less than 24 hours – three dozen of those scientists had responded in outrage, denying that their research supports Avery’s conclusions and demanding that their names be removed.

And of course the inactivist blogosphere, with their typical dazzling efficiency, have rushed to propagate and defend the Heartland list1 with civilized arguments. Here’s what the inactivist blogs are saying about the list:

Jennifer Marohasy: [sound of crickets]

Watts Up With That (by Anthony Watts): [sound of crickets]

DailyTech: [sound of crickets]

Climate Audit (by Steve McIntyre): [sound of crickets]

Climate Science (by Roger Pielke Sr.): [sound of crickets]

Oopsie… it seems that the inactionosphere was caught completely unawares2. Credit for this, I think, goes to Kevin Grandia for his quick action in bringing the list to the scientists’ attention. Thanks, Kevin! 🙂

Footnote

  1. Archived here and here.
  2. Well, there are a few not-so-professional-looking climate cranks who have commented on the Heartland list… by postulating invisible Bolshevist plots or throwing smoke bombs. But that’s all.

Update 2008-05-01: the crapmill is back.

Update 2008-05-03: I’m now creating a new blog post category for this epic fiasco.
